British Rations Heater - Tommy Cooker

Cook on the jelled fuel "Blackie Brand" Patent Tommy Cooker that has seen use from the Sudan of the 1880’s straight through into today's British Army!

Our stoves feature the same sturdy simplicity of the originals!

The Cookers consist of a cooking ring that sits on the fuel container and is extremely lightweight. The fuel tins themselves contain sufficient fuel for 3 hours of continual operation, enough to heat tea water for even the most fashionable regiment!

Each cooker comes with a tin of jelled fuel sporting the “Blackie Brand Always Best” World War I label.

This cooker will support a mess kit half full of Steak and Kidney, or a canteen cup full of boiling tea. When we ran out of fuel on one grueling occasion, we used twigs and cardboard from ration boxes and brewed up quite successfully! Sorry, neither the tea, the cup, nor the revolver are included.

British WW I Tommy Cooker Fuel

Don’t come up short of fuel when it’s time to brew a morning cuppa – these spare fuel containers are light, compact, and provide the same three-hour burn time as the original that came with your cooker.

While the label and container are exact replicas of the WW I product, the fuel inside is a clean, modern gel fuel that is safe to use indoors or out. It’s easily lit, hot burning, and turns your Tommy Cooker into an efficient field stove.

Order several, as they have a long shelf life.

British WW I Bully Beef

With the start of the 20th century the British Army began to seriously develop rations for small groups of troops that were cut off from regular supply channels. This became especially important in the latter part of WW I when it was safer to cook in the trenches than to carry prepared food up from the rear.

One of the staples for British troops at this time was tinned corned beef – famous the world over by its nickname of “Bully Beef.”

Here is a 12 ounce can of Bully Beef in its WW I label, ready to grace your mess kit, or adorn your exhibit. It comes in the classic Fray Bentos-brand tapered tin with a side-key opening. Unchanged in over a century, this can is fresh from the supplier, for those who want to dine in the trenches.
